Intramural Program (U8-U14)

The Intramural Program is dedicated to the enjoyment and development of your soccer players. The primary focus is to provide an opportunity for the participants to have fun, learn the sport, and develop life skills, as well as to instill a life-long love of the game. The club stresses a positive atmosphere of good sportsmanship and allows players to learn teamwork and gain respect for all involved. Competition is a natural part of the sport, but it is not the primary objective of the Intramural Program. All teams are coached by volunteer parents, so please volunteer to coach.

Intramural Age Groups

U8 and U10

  • Made up of teams formed in a random manner, yet balanced by age and ability, to provide an equal and fun level of competitive play.
  • Games played against other Avon teams in the same age group. All players should play at least half of every game. (U8 teams play 4 v 4 with no goalkeeper, and U10 teams play 7 v 7.)
  • One practice per week; one game per weekend.
  • Games played on Saturdays, with occasional Sunday games.

U12 and U14

  • These older age groups participate in the Farmington Valley League, which includes intramural teams from other local towns.
  • Games played against other teams in the same age group. All players should play at least half of every game. (U12 teams play 9 v 9, and U14 teams play 11 v 11.)
  • One practice per week; one game per weekend.
  • Games played on Saturdays, with occasional Sunday games.
  • Home games take place at Fisher Meadows. See Fields for away game directions.

For practices and games, players need cleats, shin guards (worn under socks), and a soccer ball (size 3 for U8, size 4 for U10 and U12, size 5 for U14). Players will receive Avon Soccer Club jerseys for game days.

Soccer Stars and Kindergarten Clinic Coaches

  • Time commitment: just one session each Saturday of the season
  • Responsibilities:
    • Keep your team organized so the players can enjoy the instruction from the professional coaching staff
    • Handle team administration (i.e., contacting players and distributing the uniforms provided by the Avon Soccer Club)

Intramural Coaches and Assistant Coaches

Without volunteer coaches like you, there is no program.
